#680 Intolerance toward LGBTQ+ Persons?
May 03, 2020I am Nico, here to talk to you about your homophobic beliefs. I am a genderfluid lesbian, and I don't want to have it so that people like you make my fellow LGBTQ+ members want to kill themselves. I don't expect you to understand, but you're a harmful bigot. You're an idiot who uses religion to excuse your homophobic views. You may think, "I'm not homophobic" or, "I'm not a bigot", but let me copy and paste the meanings of homophobic and bigot. Homophobic: "having or showing a dislike of or prejudice against homosexual people". Bigot: "a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions". You dislike and prejudice LGBTQ+ members like myself, and you are intolerant towards people who believe that being a member of this community is something to be proud of, instead of being ashamed of or feeling that it is a sin. I believe that there's nothing wrong with being a member or ally. The Bible is 2,700 years old, are you really gonna let it dictate how you live your life?

Thanks for your response, Nico! I'd much rather be criticized than ignored.
I wonder on what basis you've formed your opinion of me and my views. Have you read my article "A Christian Perspective on Homosexuality"? I think you'll find that I champion tolerance of persons with whom one disagrees, including LGBTQ+ folks. God help us if we can get along only with those who agree with us!
So I don't fit your definitions of "homophobic" or "bigot." I'm not homophobic, since I neither dislike nor am prejudiced against those advocating a homosexual lifestyle. I just disagree with them about the ethics of that lifestyle, just as I disagree with cigarette smokers about the ethics of their lifestyle. I'm not a bigot because I'm not intolerant of those holding different opinions than me. Tolerance, if you think about it, entails that you disagree with that which you tolerate--otherwise you wouldn't tolerate it, you would agree with it! The classical concept of tolerance says, “Even though I disagree with what you say, I’ll defend to the death your right to say it!”
Since I believe that the Bible is God's revealed truth, I do believe it and base my life upon it. Its age has no bearing on its truth--except to show, perhaps, that it has stood the test of time.
