Are Scientists Trending Towards Atheism?

I've seen sociological surveys conducted among scientists comparing the percentage of scientists today who believe in God compared to, say, back around 1910 or 1920, and really it's roughly the same. It's not as though there's been this vast increase of atheism among professional scientists. That's just sociologically false. But I can think of very many prominent physicists today who are outspoken theists, people like Christopher Isham, who's perhaps Great Britain's premier quantum cosmologist, or Donald Page, a collaborator with Stephen Hawking, or South Africa's George Ellis, who probably knows more about contemporary cosmology than anybody else alive. There are some of the most prominent physicists today who are theists and are quite open about it.
