I don't really mind either way. But maybe a section solely for political discussions might be worth a try to keep those who are interested in the topic happy. :-)

I agree with Grace4Free.

And I also agree with Our Lord Jesus Christ.

For Him there was no boundary between theology and all of life.
To Pontius Pilate He said He came to be a witness to the truth.
He was crucified for political reasons.

This new policy is simply censorship of topics that cause conscience's inconvenient discomfort.

If political topics are discussed in terms of morality and justice and what Jesus would say or do and want us to say or do - then I cannot see a problem.  I for one shall continue to discuss such topics in such a manner.  If a moderator ever feels it is not a Christian thing to do, then discuss it with me on the forum please.  Because otherwise I don't understand why you draw such a boundary - except if it is inconveniencing people's consciences, or if they simply don't understand the Sermon on the Mount?
