The temptations of Christ were not so tempting:
-Make bread out of stones to relieve his own hunger.
-Jump from a pinnacle and rely on angels to break his fall.
-Worship Satan in return for all the kingdoms of the world.
The first is something Jesus needed to do anyway, and it’s a miracle continuing to this day. The point of the challenge is that humans would never feed Jesus or one another. Asking for food (a stable lifelong supply of food) from one of them is not substantially different from asking for food from a stone. Men can be convinced to give food but only if money is offered in return. The temptation is thus an accusation against the Lord, “Your humans are not very great, they would not even feed their Creator, feed yourself.” This occurs as Christians admit, with the Holy Spirit entering their minds to support such goodness as they can do, including the market economy. Since Jesus is the Face of the Invisible God, the Holy Spirit’s actions are His actions, so He feeds Himself with stones.
The second reflects the basic truth that no message of any kind whatsoever can be given to men, without angelic intersession. Christians have not reasoned such a simple thing, that if the Lord can take on a human body, angels might be able to do so too. Without them the Lord is completely blocked from addressing the humans, who will always deny any attempt to claim authority, presuming the claimant to be a greedy fool seeking power along a route that is rather easy to demolish with a little violence. The angels must always “catch” the Lord, and they’ve done so as disciples, or humans would never hear of Him.
The last is most ludicrous of all, where to be king of men is not substantially different from being a shepherd. The humans crave to be kings of one another, but the shepherd knows the sheep are lacking in self-awareness and social competence, and can never become friends who share his interests and joys. The angels will see this too, it is as if the tempter has said, “Worship me and I’ll throw garlands of stinkweed around your neck until you virtually choke on the noxious odors.” Jesus and angels will say, “No thanks.”
